There are many views of justice and the role it is to play in our society. It usually involves punishment for one section of society as penance for wrongdoing. I see justice as the expansion of the peace and goodness of God. A time when the ‘knowledge of the glory of God will cover the earth as waters cover the sea’ Hab 2:14.
In Ephesians 6, Paul begins to describe the uniform of a Roman soldier and how it parallels the weapons of believers. He was under house arrest and had plenty of time to inspect the armor of the men that kept Him captive. In verse 15 He admonishes us to keep our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Preparation here is a nod towards the ancient practice of people going before kings to level the road to ensure a smooth journey. God promises that mountains will be brought low and valleys raised as a sign of a new redemptive day.
We carry peace and authority. When these meet we become a company of road makers and peace bringers who prepare the way for the daily increase of His government. Let us with all diligence exact the justice of a loving Father. A Father who moves well along the road His children have prepared.
